Why is it that some authors just seem to crank out the books like writing machines? Not only do they publish their first book, but after that they publish a second, third and more.

I’ve been studying non-fiction authors and their habits for a while now. Ever since my partner Denise Wakeman and I started our Blog to Book Project, we’ve been learning about the challenges of consultants, speakers, and other professionals who want to publish non-fiction books to build their businesses.

Common Excuses ad nauseum

And we’ve heard all the excuses. And they’re not just excuses, because every writer we talk to has valid reasons they haven’t finished their book (or in some cases, haven’t even been working on their book). They go something like this:

- Lack of time

– Busy working at day job

– Distracted by work and family responsibilities

– No uninterrupted time to concentrate

– Not sure the time required would be worth the results it would bring

– Looking for ideal title, or a unique message

– Need to narrow scope

– Need to complete more research

The list goes on and on. Yet when we provide solutions to these problems, more excuses pop up.

It seems that the common denominator of unpublished authors is procrastination. The reasons aren’t unique; they are ubiquitous. The result is the same: another would-be author with plenty of talent and no book to show for it.

We are stumped and confounded. We are sincere in our efforts to want to help people succeed at getting a book published. Yet some people do succeed at getting their books out. What is the defining difference that turns them into published authors?

In Part II of this article I’ll look at what behaviors make up the profile of a successful author and the defining edge required to turn procrastination into implementation.

Matthew 8:24-26. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
And his disciples came to him and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

The Anchor held in the midst of the storm, the Sails of Faith, were torn and nothing would do except Faith in the Saviour.

There is a tempest in all of our lives one day or another. A Tempest so large we believe that we are to perish in the waves and wind. We all have been there, a death, a lost opportunity, financial ruin, disease, sickness running rampant in our body or our family. But Remember that the Anchor Holds in the Midst of all storms.

Lets read Psalms 89:9, “Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.” In 1999, I was pronounced dead of a massive heart attack. My wife, Juanita, Daughter, Tiffine and a close friend, Jack, were there to witness the greatest storm of their lives.

I can’t imagine what they were going thru, the tears, pain, suffering, disbelief and hopelessness. Their sails were tearing when this storm came upon them unexpectedly. This was a tempest that they would not want to happen but it came never the less. And as for me, I was without pain for the very first time in my life.

Darkness engulfed me, as it were a soothing blanket, no pain, sorrow, trouble, worrys, I was at peace. There came crys’ of painful desperation as My wife, came into the room and declared that the Anchor Holds. The storm was raging and the sails were tearing apart but she knew that Jesus, as the Anchor, was Holding. She turned to the only one that could calm the storm, and with tears of helplessness, she spoke to The Lord God Almighty. “Dear Lord, My Husband is dead and we need Him so much.

If it be thy will Lord, give Him back to me, for His work on this earth isn’t done. Give Him Lord another chance to make a difference and to preach the Gospel. I need Him Lord, let him return to me. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.”

I came alive and the pain fell on me, as a great millstone falling upon the surface of the waters. God took us both thru the tempest. Her fears were relieved and Her Sails were strengthened, as God wove the Fabric Himself. After Six months of rehabilitation, I was able to preach once again.

These storms, that we all go thou, are storms of testing and storms of faith in the Creator.

There are many storms and tempest in this life, Iraq, Iran, Islam, Murder, Theft, Wars and Rumors of Wars, Doubt, Confusion, Helplessness, and Mens hearts failing them for fear. We mention many false religions because they are storms within themselves, worshiping, dead men, animals, doctrines that were written by man, without the inspiration of God, which all have one thing in common, hatred of Christianity. These storms result in division of nations, wars of idealogical ideas and threats of violence upon the light givers of the world.

These are all signs of the end days, when man is a lover of himself, more than lovers of God, and are lovers of darkness, more than lovers of light. When the sky is blue, we see only rainbows and pretty flowers, but as the unexpected tempest arises, we see doom and despair.

Many, when the tempest arises, have no light to guide them, they run to and fro seeking answers, but none are found.
The sails, are the fabric of the faith, that man has in God, even tho many do not believe and never will. These are the dark clouds that contain no water but are just for show.

Our fabric must be repaired as each new storm arises. Satan trys’ to rip and tear at this fabric until the wind passes thru. The wind and sails together move the ship forward upon a set course that will eventually land the believer in the shores of Heaven. But if the sails remain torn and shredded, they stop the forward movement of the ship, bobbing aimlessly, with no direction and no destination.

These rips and gashes are easily seen, The attacks of 911, Iraq, Afghanistan, corrupt government, Islam, Evolution, Storms, Hurricanes, Floods, Fires,and the entire Middle East situation, from Africa to Syria, its all interconnected, to bring about fear to multitudes, shaking the foundation of our spirits.

Lets read Psa 107:25-30 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

Barnes states of Psa 107:28 – Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble Sailors pray. If they do not pray elsewhere, they often do in a storm, when in danger of being wrecked and lost. A storm at sea brings hundreds on their knees who never prayed before – for they feel that their only help is in God, and that it is a fearful thing to die. Then they do “right.” They do what “ought” to be done.

But they do then only what people ought always to do, for it is as plain a duty to pray when we are in safety as when we are in danger; when sailing on a smooth sea as in a storm; when on the land as on the ocean. People anywhere, and at any time may die; and people everywhere and at all times “should,” therefore, call upon God.

Storms, tempests, fire, disease, and danger, only impel people to do what they should do always from higher motives, and when their motives will be likely to be more disinterested and pure. And thru all this the Anchor Holds. When we can do no more, we stand, stand with the anchor down, until the Storm Passes and is subdued. Can we pray for the Anchor to lead us, Guide us and deliver Us from these storms? Yes. The Anchor is always on the ship and is at the ready to aid in times of need. Ars.

I had been online for several years and always heard that you needed to submit articles. Of course I never did for the fact that I didn’t have a clue about search engine optimizations and since I didn’t, I really had no need to submit articles.

Boy was I wrong! In fact I don’t know if I have ever been so wrong in my life To this day I don’t know much about search engines but I don’t really need to. I get close to 1200 hits a day just from articles that I have submitted to numerous directories.

Submitting an article is just as easy as it sounds, write an article and submit it.
However if you don’t find the effort rewarding like I did you would never start. So I am going to try to do my best to convince you otherwise.

A good strategy that I have come up with is everytime I write an article and add it to my website I also submit it to the numerous article directories that I have found and added to my notepad. I have 47 article directories saved in my notepad it only takes about an hour to submit one article to all of them.

On average I send around 3 articles a week to those 47 directories and on average I net 15-25 sales a week on various programs. If you think about it 1 hour a day is nothing compared to the rewards.

I have also started to use Isnare to auto submit my article to hundreds of ezine publishers a day which is a steal for only $2 bucks I spend a day.
Ezine announcer isn’t to shabby either. Remember that I don’t know much about search engines and I get around 100 unique visitors a day to my blog from google.

When you start submitting articles at a rapid pace as I do you will see outstanding results. You probably won’t believe your eyes as I did when sales start flooding your inbox. Something this simple should not be overlooked by any marketer and I hope this article shows you why.

In your resource box, make sure you are clear, stating who you are and where they can find out more about you. Most article directories and magazines have set limits on the size and amount of information you can place so it is important to ensure it is accurate and inviting. You are not writing articles just for praise and admiration. You do have a business to run and bills to pay. Even if you are a millionaire and want to write just for the shear joy of it and love to teach for free, your resource box is still important, as you would want the readers to know that the information came from a credible source.

So go ahead and get started. Don’t stop at one article, it can easily become buried.. Make it a habit and write them regularly whether it is once a week or once a month. And remember, have fun doing them.

When I was a kid, my friends and I would spend hours talking about each other’s
mommas. We said some pretty cruel things, but no one took offense. Rather, those
joke-telling sessions were contests. Well-crafted jokes were rewarded with
laughter and affirmation. Duds were greeted with either silence or jeers.

“Momma” jokes can teach us a lot about how to communicate more powerfully.
I remember that the best jokes:

* Were Simple: Crisp, clear communication was key. The best jokers recognized
that the faster they got to the point, the better the joke. For successful
communications, keep it simple.

* Used The Active Voice: Momma was often doing something (usually bad) to
someone. Something never did anything bad to momma. When writing, remember
what Strunk and White taught: “The active voice is . . . more direct and vigorous
than the passive.”

* Were Creative: Before, during and after each session, we wracked our brains for
innovative ways to insult someone else’s momma. We recognized that there is
nothing new under the sun. However, we always found a creative way to insert
momma into an old situation. Creativity is the spice of good communications.

* Left An Impression: We usually remembered and repeated the best momma jokes.
Granted, the fact that they were usually naughty probably had a lot to do with it.
However, it was also because these jokes left a vivid, enduring picture in our minds.
No matter how mundane the topic, effective communicators strive to ensure that
their messages are remembered and hopefully repeated.

For powerful communications, remember to keep it simple, use the active voice, be
creative and leave an impression.
