You Cannot Place a Dollar Value on a Person’s Life
There are many contractors who have accepted truck driving jobs in Iraq. This may seem unusual for some since the United States is currently at war with Iraqi insurgents. The terror of taking these high risk jobs is that you never know where or when you might be attacked. I would imagine that trucking companies provide some type of firearm protection to its drivers. It would otherwise be unimaginable why someone would risk their lives to make money for a company who does not do something to ensure their safety. As much as the driver makes, the trucking company makes even more. Can you really put a dollar value on a person’s life?
It is unfortunate that truck driving jobs in Iraq remain popular enough for someone to risk their lives in order to provide for their family. Unfortunately the U.S. economy does not support every able bodied person currently. Many people have lost their jobs and because of this, have decided to risk life and limb to put food on their family’s table and keep a roof over their heads. I do not blame a person for wanting to provide for his or her family. However, I do wish that they did not have to consider taking a job that could lead them directly in the line of fire.
