Holistic Medicine: What is it?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I practice holistic medicine and I’m often asked what that means. Here’s how I define it.

The Gift of Time. I set aside 90 minutes for the first visit to permit time to listen to my patient’s story. This way, I learn the many different factors influencing my patient’s well-being and can get to the root causes. I can’t do this in twelve, even 20 minutes. Sometimes a potential patient will ask why my appointments are longer than usual. I explain that my conventional medical training taught me to listen for symptoms then quickly order tests or write prescriptions. This model lets physicians see a large number of patients in a short amount of time. However, drugs and surgery silence symptoms, but rarely change the underlying disease. This never made sense to me, and I sought a different approach.

Restoring Health. I don’t fight disease. I help my patients restore their health. Each patient leaves with a regimen designed to create the causes and conditions for health. With that, their own self-healing ability, an idea that goes back to at least Hippocrates, cures their ailments. I have a special interest and faith in diet to do this, but I also use bioidentical hormone replacement, nutritional supplements, homeopathy, and cranial osteopathy. I often advise patients to learn mindfulness meditation, yoga or tai chi to cultivate mind and body awareness, and to calm their overtaxed nervous systems. I refer when other modalities seem appropriate, such as acupuncture or psychotherapy.

This model of restoring health is the model of the future. My hope is that more physicians will adopt it. Until then, the American Holistic Medical Association website http://www.holisticmedicine.org has a “doctor finder” that can help you find someone like me in your area.

The Laid Daughter

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

There has been a lot of publicity lately centered on the issue of child molestation. Child molestation is a horrific form of child abuse that leaves its victims with a deep loss of self and the inability to cope with life’s challenges.

Another form of child abuse, that leaves its victims powerless and confused, is incest. Incest is a topic that most families refuse to discuss and sometimes deny that it ever existed. The Laid Daughter, by Helen Bonner is such an example.

In this riveting novel, the author discusses her own issues with incest. What is so unique about the novel itself is that the author has been journaling her strange feelings and dreams for over 20 years before she realizes that her journal entries depict her true life experiences.

The author takes us on her journey through self discovery and healing by allowing us to see her daily struggles in life. She is plagued with failed marriages and her inability to have honest and open relationships with others. She cuts herself off from her family and friends. There is however, something very striking about Ms. Bonner’s character. She is able to hold down a job and build herself a lucrative career while dealing with the incest issue.

Going through the healing process was not an easy road for Ms. Bonner. Early on, she was given erroneous advice from some early therapist. She found herself dropping out of therapy with the belief that somehow she could conquer her demons on her own. She then seeks therapy through a wonderful therapist by the name of Glenda Parkinson who discovers that Helen was not just a survivor of incest, but she also suffered from a Multiple Personality Disorder.

Glenda Parkinson also expresses how quickly Helen was able to work through her demons as shown by the following excerpt:

“Helen spent only a year in intense psychotherapy with me. The average length of treatment time is somewhere between five and ten years. She was highly motivated and followed her gut instincts in making therapeutic decisions for herself. She read. She wrote. She practiced suggestive directives. She attended a national conference for adult survivors. Her art work was another vehicle for self-understanding. She used relaxation techniques when feeling panicky. She begin to fill her new “house” by acknowledging and fulfilling the needs of her integrating selves. Decisions Helen made for herself rather than against herself were the catalyst toward wholeness.”

As you can see by the above excerpt, healing from incest or any other form of childhood abuse can be done with hard work and determination. I would recommend this fine piece of work to anyone who has suffered the pain and anguish of child abuse or to anyone who wants to discover how they can make changes in their own life that can help them move forward to living life to its fullest.

What Every Trainee Ought to Know Concerning Net Sports Results Laying

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Learn the strategies, practice the tricks: Best WWW bet gambling sports gambling here!

Combine men’s supreme interests and you are assured to reveal something that’s titled a sportsbook gambling Web location. Truly, what could be more resourceful. See a crowd of sports aficionados clapping for their favored local team, and almost all the time stakes are calculated matching the clamor. Intent to get their share of the anticipation, bystanders often attempt to divine who is the likeliest to prevail the approaching contest. Put together, this all develops into a warmhearted, amicable contest known as sportsbook gambling Web location.

In order to wager, you should look up a sportsbook gambling Web location, that’s to say a place which offers sportsbook gambling Web location. In the U.S.A., there’s a total of four states to do sports wagering in a legitimate manner, but beyond legality you can go for it just about anywhere if you find a bookie and if you’re legally of age. Covered track-and-field events you have a choice of betting on are professional listed with college football + college class basketball, pro baseball and hockey, listed with wagers on both dog and horse racing. You’ll be able to wager on the comprehensive tally of a game or fight, at which point any given competitor will be defeated, and even if a tossed coin in a game or fight lands heads or tails.

Of course there are a lot of varying types of stakes: parlays, i.e. combined antes on several track-and-field events, straight, over/unders, i.e. wagers on the sum total of points attained in the race by both competitors, teasers, &c., the straight bets, where you’ll simply quote the side you feel will make it or go under being the most common in sports wagering.

So, why don’t you simply check it out and relax for good measure. Simply make certain that you won’t get ripped away and drain your total retirement fund on a bee. Else, you will be sure to end up repentant for the rest of your life.

How to Know If Your Business Website is Working: A 5-Minute Tutorial

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Do you know if your website is working as hard as it could
be? Do you know where to look to find out? You could check
your web traffic logs but that just gives you raw numbers,
it doesn’t tell you how to fix the problems.

This tutorial will show you how to troubleshoot your website
by finding and fixing potential sales-busters before they
have a chance to do damage.

Interestingly enough, these problems usually aren’t big ticket
items. Often they are copywriting, design, or usability flaws
that can be patched up quite simply with a little effort and
know-how.

So, here we go… this is what I look for when I conduct a
website content writing and design analysis for visitors to
my copywriting website:

Copywriting Factors

-Grabby headings and subheadings. People are looking for an
anchor, a place for their eyes to land when they arrive at your
webpage. Help them by providing a heading that demands their
attention and offers a solid benefit.

-A customer-centric writing style. Talk more about “you” than
“us” and answer your prospect’s main question: “What can you do
for me?” Aim for a tone that’s personal, warm and inviting.

-Inverted pyramid. Your key points, the meat and potatoes,
should appear early in the copy with secondary selling points
lower down.

-Calls to action. Never assume that visitors will pick up on
your navigation scheme and find their way around. Tell them
right in your copy what they should/can do to accomplish
their goals, and provide links to those pages.

-Prove it. Back up your pitch with evidence of past performance,
testimonials, case studies, whatever it takes to prove you’re as
good as you say you are. (And be sure to use the full names of
real people for your testimonials. Bogus accreditation like
“B.R., Boston” has no credibility.)

-Dispel objections. Ignoring people’s reasons for NOT buying
doesn’t make those reasons go away, it just makes the people
go away. Instead, address their objections and deflate them.

-Flaunt your uniqueness. Example: A visitor to a webhosting
site already knows the benefits of hosting. What he/she really
wants to know is why YOUR hosting service is better than your
competitors’. That’s your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) and
your business should clearly identify one or more of them in
your copy.

-Check twice for spelling/grammar mistakes and excessive punctuation.

-Proper search engine optimization. Title tags, description tags,
and content should contain your top keyword phrases. Red flags
start flapping if I see a keyword phrase repeated often in your content
that doesn’t appear in your title tag, or vice versa. I also
check to see how many incoming links you have. These days, link
popularity and proper content optimization are two of the most
important SEO strategies.

-More good words. Pages with only a line or two of copy have a
much harder time gaining solid rankings for their chosen
keywords not to mention communicating with their prospective
customers.

Design Factors

-Professional image. Your business site should have a pleasing
appearance, a well-designed logo, and a generally grown-up look.
An expensive custom design isn’t necessary but anything that
looks amateur or homemade diminishes credibility.

-Consistency of style. I look for fonts, page layouts, color
schemes, and menus that stay the same from page to page and
within each page.

-Unity of design and message. Does your design style match your
message and target audience? A bold color scheme
embellished with cartoon characters might not
be appropriate for a seniors health care website.

Usability Factors

-A tagline and/or statement of purpose in an obvious place. How
long does it take a new visitor to figure out what your site
does? More than a few seconds and your usability score starts
to tank.

-Text layout. Replace those long blocks of copy with short
paragraphs, lists, highlighted areas, tables… anything to break
up the page into easily-digested bites.

-Navigation labels that make sense to the most people. Don’t say “storefront” or
“index” when you mean “home”.

-Tell the whole story. Plugging your product or service is only
the beginning. Make it easy for visitors to learn about your
guarantee, shipping fees, returns, and other policies BEFORE
they click the buy button, not after.

-Short and sweet menus. Do you have one of those 20-item menus
on your home page? I’m looking for a short, logical menu with a
linking structure to internal pages that shows you put some
thought into how visitors will use your site.

This list doesn’t cover every potential trouble spot but it does
touch on the main snags that frequently crop up in small- to
medium-size business sites. I hope it helps you determine how
well your website is working and how to tweak it for better
performance.

Weightless Workout – Strength Training Without Equipment

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Resistance training, also known as strength training, does not require a gym membership. It does not even require an expensive home gym. In this article, you will discover the secret of isometric training and its effectiveness for muscle growth.

Weightless Strength Training:

  • Still requires a warm-up, with stretching afterwards.
  • Still requires protein to increase musculature.
  • Can be more effective than lifting weights, because you can “max out”
Is safer than lifting weights, and can be done without equipment of any kind.
Requires just a bit of experimentation to determine proper position.
  • Consult your physician regarding chronic problems before starting.

Before and After

Just like lifting weights, you should always warm up before isometrics. This means a
light jog or other low-impact activity that will raise your heart rate and raise your
core temperature by a few degrees. This should last at least 5 minutes, preferably
10 or more. After this, you should do joint rotations. This is not a stretch, it is
preparing the joint for work by encouraging blood flow. Then, do the resistance
training. At the end, stretch all of the joints you have worked that day. Studies have
shown that stretching before strength training actually reduces the muscle’s
capacity, and does not prevent injury as was previously thought. Stretching after the
work out will protect the joint and prevent cramping.

Maximum Overload

Anyone who has done a little research into muscle growth knows that what triggers
muscle growth and strength gains is overload of the muscle. If you can do 20 reps
with 20 lbs, you’re exhausting the muscle, not overloading it. If you pile on 100 lbs,
and can only do 3 reps, this is ideal for lifting weights in a gym. But it is still not the
maximum overload possible. Your goal for the most efficient workout is to flex with
all your might during a partial rep (the range of motion where you can exert the
most power).

You can’t really accomplish maximum overload at all using conventional weights.
For one thing, you’d need a spotter to hand you the weights when you’re in the
optimum range, and you’d have to instantly get a perfect grip on them.
Furthermore, what weight do you use? You can’t be sure how much stronger you’ve
gotten since your last workout, if you put too little, you’re not maxing out, and if
you put too much you’ll drop it and risk muscle injury.

The answer is easier than you think. Get into the optimal range, then press (or push
or pull) on something immovable. You can exert your absolute maximum force, and
there’s no danger. That’s Isometrics: Intense muscle contraction at an ideal muscle
length without moving – because the muscle is acting against an equal force. About
10 seconds of maximum force is the most that anyone can sustain, so try to aim for
3 sets of 10 seconds for each exercise.

Ideal Length

Your muscles aren’t made to exert the same amount of force throughout their range
of motion. You have a weak range and a strong range. The ideal length for isometric
exercises is at the muscle length where you can exert the most force. It is different
for each muscle, and varies a bit person to person. For this reason, you may have to
experiment a bit by varying the positions I recommend below until you feel the most
force.

How do I perform weightless exercises?

Let’s start with the chest muscles, called the pectoralis (major and minor). Using
standard equipment in the gym, you would normally use a barbell bench press or a
dumbell flies. To convert this into an isometric exercise, you may think that you can
just do the same action against a wall, since the wall is immovable. But that’s not
true, because it’s really your legs that are pressing your hands into the wall, not
your chest. (Try it!) This would only work if you were in a narrow hallway, with one
wall against your back, and your palms flat against the opposite wall. That way
you’d be pressing with your chest. However, unless you’re 9 feet tall, most hallways
will be too wide for you. There are two practical ways to do the isometric chest
exercise: sqeezing an object (one that won’t be easily crushed) between your palms,
or pressing your palms together (since one side of your chest should be about the
same strength as the other, each arm should provide exactly the right amount of
resistance for the other arm).

For most people, the ideal muscle length for the pectoralis is nearly fully contracted.
If you were doing a standard dumbell flye or a bench-press, that’s the top of the
action, with the weight almost fully pressed away above your chest. So, when trying
to crush a wooden box between your palms, or pressing your palms together, your
arms should be nearly fully extended. You should have a small bend in the elbows,
and your wrists, elbows and shoulders should be level. Do not drop your elbows, or
you won’t be able to exert yourself as much, and you risk hurting your elbow joint.
Concentrate on flexing your chest as much as possible for 10 seconds, exhaling
slowly as you do. Then relax, and move on to your upper arms.

Once you understand the chest exercise, the biceps and triceps should be pretty
obvious. With palms together, press your writs together as in the chest exercise, but
this time with one hand facing up and the other down. The hand facing up will be
flexing the biceps, attempting to pull towards your chest. The palm facing down will
attempt to push away, flexing the triceps. Apply as much pressure as you can for 10
seconds, wrist to wrist (not into your palm or fingers, because that relies on your
wrist strength, which will limit the development of your biceps and triceps). Then
switch hands, and work the complementary muscle on the other arm.

The ideal length for the biceps is just more than half-way flexed. Make a “L” with
your arm, then flex it a little more. For the triceps, the ideal length with the arm at
almost full extension. This means that, for me, when I work my left biceps, my right
arm has to cross my chest. Unlike the chest exercise, both elbows should be
pointing towards the floor.

What about the shoulders or deltoids? For this one you will need a doorway, and if
you’re short, you’ll also need a stool. Simply stand with spine straight and legs
flexed, and press your palms into the top of the door frame for 10 seconds.

The biggest back muscle is the latissimus darsi, otherwise known as the “lats”. Still
standing in the doorway with your hands above your head from the previous
exercise, press your elbows into the sides of the door frame. The ideal length of the
lats is almost a full extension, so technically, the narrower the door the better. A
linen closet usually has a smaller door, so if you have one, use it.

If you’ve tried these exercises and feel the principles, you should be able to make up
weightless exercises for any muscle in your body. I personally cannot figure out an
isometric ab exercise without using special equipment, so if you can invent one,
please write me to tell me about it. Email: info@weightlessproducts.com

Caution

The best part about the Weightless Workout is that it is so safe. If you ever feel pain
or discomfort you can stop immediately and not risk dropping a heavy weight on
yourself. You can just stop, and you should. Even the weakest elderly people can do
isometric exercises because your own muscles define how much work you do.
However, as with any other activity, there is a risk of injury, so consult your
physician, especially if you suspect that your muscles are stronger than your joints
or bones. Persons with osteoporosis can actually cause bone fractures because their
muscles exert more force than their brittle bones can take.

Try a Large Dildo for a Lovely Orgasm with your Boyfriend

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Some husbands have a difficult time keeping a hard on and some chicks have really long sex drives, meaning it will take the lady an astonishingly long time to come. Because of this difference in sex drives, intercourse can often become a boring and undesirable sexual session. That’s why juicy dildos will often be helpful. If the bloke comes early in the sexual session, or even if the chick just takes longer than her man, he can continue to penetrate the woman with the thin dildo. That way all sexual activity doesn’t end. It gives the bloke enough time to recharge his energy and also helps the woman horned up. Hence when the bloke is all set to come back into the sexual session, the gal will still be aroused enough to accept the man. Perfect for the quiet night in – Sex Toys.

Your most stimulation area is your mind. And as noticeably as innumerable females won’t admit this, the penis is a focus of fertility, no matter how huge or small, it is still associated with power. Penetrating your girl with a little dildo will make a fantasy of power fun reality.

Some folks adore the sensation of feeling full in their vagina or bottom. Whenever a sexy toy such as a huge dildo, penetrates the vagina or anus, the muscles contract around it. Abounding women get the tightening of these muscles to be particularly enjoyable.

Using Your E-Products To Create Joint Ventures

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

If you are into online business then you must know about e-products. If not let me explain very quickly what they are. E-products are products that you create yourself that come from your mind through information or experiences you have gained. They cost you nothing($0.00) to create and the great thing is you gain 100% profits on any e-products sold. Some samples of e-products are articles, ebooks or ecourses based around a certain subject or field of information. They are created to fill a void for users and are very easy to create. They just take some time to plan and if you want them to be successful you have to do some research so that they can be based on useful information.

Now that you know what e-products are you should now realize the benefit from them and how you can use them to gain exposure on other webmasters site. Webmasters are always looking to add new content to their websites which includes finding products that fill a void that their client base is missing. They look to offer new content to their clients that will fill a need in their visitor as well as to give their audience new information that will help them along their way. For example if you write an ebook on web designing then this may sell great on “guide to web design” website. What is also so great about offering your product to other websites is that it is usually free for you to do and the only work you have to do is to create the material. The webmaster and their website does all of the selling.

Now you start to see that creating you on e-products will allow you to create joint ventures with other website. What is a joint venture? Well it is basically what we have explained above but in short you take your product, offer it to a webmaster for them to post it on their website or in their newsletter and you split the profits. You can split the profits in any way(50/50, 60/40/ 70/30 ect…) but you have to make sure your offer entices and interest the other parties(especially bigger sites). Also make sure that you have a good way to track sales by either 1. Being able to login and view your sales via thier shopping cart. or 2. Offering them an affiliate id for people to purchase through your website by following an affiliate link from theirs.

Also don’t forget to offer other free content for them to use to create an interest/buzz in their visitors. This can be testimonials to show how great your ebook is, a free sample from inside the ebook or a discount specific only to their website so that people really want to try your product. Don’t be afraid to do all of the above to really get people interested in what you are offering. Another great deal you can offer is “buy this ebook today and get this how to guide free”. So in this case if they purchase your ebook then they will also get a “how to” guide free.

So you see how you can easily create your own products, make 100% of the sales and create a network of sites to offer your products via a joint venture. A Truly great way to get your product off of the ground and money in your pocket!Using Your e-Products To Create Joint Ventures.

Marketing on the Cheap: Write? Right!!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

We all know the value of writing articles for promoting your website or online store. However, writing articles to promote your old-fashioned, traditional brick and mortar business has been around forever.

Contact your local newspapers, and chances are, depending on what business you are in, they may be interested in giving you your own column. Most small or medium-sized media markets will have at least one daily serving the communities and probably at least one weekly newspaper. Offer to supply a weekly or even a monthly column for free. They are always looking for editorial content and “free” is always attractive. Be careful about a daily commitment, this can get overly demanding in a hurry.

It may be a little more difficult to approach the Los Angeles Times or the New York Times, but in major media markets there are any number of regional weeklies that can be approached.

Other considerations may be regional or even national trade publications, Chamber of Commerce newsletter or other professional associations and organizations you may belong to.

If you can’t get the column for free, don’t be afraid to pay for it. But make sure the layout is designed to look as much as possible like a regular story or editorial content. The paper will probably require that you put some sort of disclaimer on your column like the word “advertising”, but this is not a big deal.

Have a professional photo taken and include it in you articles whenever possible. Don’t use your high school photo or one that is touched up to make you look totally different than you actually do. You are trying to build recognition and credibility. After your column has run for some time, you will be surprised how many people will easily recognize you. People like to do business with people they know.

Okay, so now you have own column; make good use of it. Give it value. Do not make it a blatant advertisement and/or sales pitch. In fact, except in extremely rare occasions you probably don’t want to sell anything directly in your column at all. You want to write real content, stories that are either of real value or entertaining. I had a friend once that owned a restaurant. He paid to have his own column in our local newspaper. He never once wrote a story about his own restaurant. Instead he wrote about his world travels, famous chefs, and the wonderful restaurants he had enjoyed.

Another approach you may want to consider is a “How To” column. I once supplied a weekly column for an art gallery/picture-framing studio. We wrote a series of how to buy and frame your own artwork.

Check you local newspaper and you will no doubt see examples. If you are writing the column for the newspaper and not paying for it, make sure you retain editorial control and copyright to the work. If you are paying for insertion, ask your ad representative or ad agency for samples. As you travel around, pick up the local newspapers in the area you are visiting and see what others are doing.

If you don’t have the time or the feel you are not capable of writhing your own column, check with an ad agency. You should be able to find one that provides this service. If you belong to a professional association, check with them and see if they supply “ghost” stories. I have worked with accountants, stockbrokers, lawyers and others using ghost stories.

I will suggest that if you are not writing the story yourself, you may want avoid the by line that says “by” and use “furnished by” or “supplied by” or something of that nature. The last thing you want to do is get caught taking credit for writing something someone else wrote. If you pay a copywriter for original copy, this is not as likely to happen. But if you use ghost stories from an association, you are more then likely not going to have exclusivity. Someone in another publication may be running the same story.

When you start this project, think long term. It takes a commitment. It will take some time to build readership. You are establishing yourself as an expert in your field to people that don’t know you. This will not happen overnight.

I mentioned retaining editorial control and copyright. After you have created a number of columns and/or stories, you may want to consider putting them all together in a book. Keep this in mind in the early stages. If you are working with a ghostwriter or ad agency, make sure they understand your intentions so proper preparations can be made and taken into consideration from the very beginning. If your traditional non-web based business does have a web site, and it should have, make sure you prepare your writings for distribution on the net as well.

Once you start writing you can use the materials in any number of different ways.

So…go write something!
